4th APEC Ocean-related Ministerial Meeting to be held in Xiamen Aug 27-28
The 4th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ocean-related Ministerial Meeting will be held from August 27th to 28th in Xiamen. The meeting is sponsored by the State Oceanic Administration of the People’s Republic of China and hosted by Xiamen.
The meeting, themed around building new Asia Pacific Oceanic Cooperation partnerships, will focus on communication in fields including marine ecological environment protection, disaster prevention and reduction, food security, marine science and technology innovation and marine economy.
APEC is the most important, highest-level, and most influential economic cooperation organization in the Asia-Pacific region. The ministerial meeting is the highest-level meeting that is only second to the informal leaders’ meeting.
The APEC Ocean Ministerial Meeting was held in Korea, Indonesia, and Peru in 2002, 2005 and 2010, respectively. The APEC Ocean Ministerial Meeting is to be held in China for the first time, and it will be the highest-level international intergovernmental oceanic conference that has ever been held in China. It will also be one of the 9 ministerial meetings in China in 2014.
